Our Journey

Changing weather patterns, persistent droughts, farmer suicides, fluctuating market rates, and unpredictable prices of agricultural produce have made agriculture a sensitive and pressing issue. Farmers’ concerns have grown, and the reputation of farming as a profession has suffered. The severity of recent droughts and the resulting farmer issues have become a major concern for everyone.

In response, compassionate actors from the film industry have initiated water conservation projects. Aamir Khan and the Satyamev Jayate team launched a water conservation movement in Maharashtra. Through public participation, Paani Foundation has conducted significant scientific water conservation work. Naam Foundation has provided support to farmers affected by suicides. Social leader Anna Hazare has also led movements addressing farmers’ issues.

Activists from Snehalaya closely observed all these efforts. Agriculture and the well-being of farmers became a matter of deep concern for us as well. Alongside water conservation efforts, we recognized that integrating processing industries for agricultural produce, securing fair and reliable markets for farmers, planning farming practices according to changing conditions, and adjusting cropping patterns could indeed become a lifeline for farmers.

With this belief, we came together and established the Sanmitra Farmer Producer Company
